Boxing News from Beijing, China: Mingcun, Ziquiang Win Belts; WBF Signs Agreement

PhilBoxing.com

In an exciting fight event, the WBF (World Boxing Foundation) successfully held its first double-championship fights in China's capital, Beijing.

In the main rumbles, tough Chinese boxer Ziquiang Hou defeated Australian Greg Bell to capture the vacant WBF Asia Pacific Welterweight Title, while Aussie Clint Alderton succumbed to Chinese Mingcun Chen in their battle for the vacant WBF International Light Heavyweight Strap.

The Aussie Greg Bell of Geelong, Victoria boxed well in the early stages, sniping the Chinese with jabs and right straights. But the strong Hou got his rhythm in the third round with a two hard attacks that rocked Bell.

In the fourth chapter, Hou landed viciously on Bell's mid-section, unleashing a relentless attack on the back-pedaling Australian. Greg Bell finally capitulated to Hou's assault in the 5th stanza after being caught with a hard left hook to the side of his body, followed by a wild combination to the head. The Aussie referee Justin Kennedy called the halt to the fight at 2:18 of the fifth round.

In Light Heavyweights, Chinese Mingcun Chen exerted a clear domination over his Australian opponent right from the get go, fast overpowering him. The Chinese's clean attack to the head and body of Clint Alderton proved too much for the visitor.

The pounding was unfolding relentlessly in the second chapter when Chen caught Clint with a huge and wild overhand left that seemed to come all the way from the mountains of China's Great Wall.

The Australian Ref Justin Kennedy waived off his compatriot, declaring the local warrior Mingcun Chen as the winner by TKO in round two.

The two WBF title bouts were officiated by mixed of Chinese and foreign officials. One of them was international judge from the Philippines Arnie Najera and the supervisor was WBF president Mick Croucher.

The professional bouts were preceded by amateur fights, starring young Chinese boxers aged 7 to 12.

The fight event gave a good glimpse at how China keeps on developing boxing as mainstream sport.

WBF SIGNS AGREEMENT IN CHINA

Fights were organized WBF China headed by its president Zhang Baojian and the Beijing Boxing Association.

With the event, World Boxing Foundation (WBF) goes forward with promoting its events in China.
