NBA - - Westbrook-less Thunder downs Wolves, 113-101

PhilBoxing.com

MINNEAPOLIS - The visiting Oklahoma City Thunder came to the Land of Ten Thousand Lakes (Minnesota State) for a preseason game Friday night and beat the Timberwolves 113-101 without 2016 MVP Russell Westbrook, who didn't see action due to injury.

The Wolves were also without their disgruntled emotional leader, Jimmy Butler, who has demanded a trade just before the start of training camp.

The Wolves had a slow start, quickly fell 31-20 after one quarter, before cutting it to 53-49 at the half. But the Thunder, like hungry squirrels looking for morsels of food to nimble on, went to work and extended their lead to 89-73 entering the fourth quarter.

Paul George stepped up in Westbrook?s absence with 23 points, five rebounds with four assists. Five OKC players scored in double figures. Steven Adams had 14 points and 13 boards, Jerami Grant and transferees Dennis Schroder and Nerlens Noel had 12 points apiece while Alex Abrines chipped in 10.

Wiggins struggled mightily, 2-for-9 from the field and 0-for-2 from downtown.

Karl Anthony Towns, the 2016 Rookie of the Year, led the Timberwolves with 23 points and seven rebounds. Teague dropped 17 points, in lieu of Butler, Rose took his spot as starting shooting guard had 11 points, three boards and three assists while Gorgui Dieng contributed 10. Wiggins under-performed with just four points.
