CANELO-GGG UPDATE: GOLOVKIN WEIGHS 168.3 LBS., ALVAREZ 167.4 LBS. 30 DAYS BEFORE REMATCH

PhilBoxing.com

WBA, IBO and WBC world middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin tipped the scales at 168.3 lbs., way below the 176 lbs. limit, for the WBC-mandated 30-day weigh-in. Golovkin?s weigh-in happened at The Summit, the Kazakh's training camp in Big Bear Lake, California.

The undefeated champion also got negative random drug tests, and will fight again at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada for a record-breaking 21st consecutive title defense on September 15, the Mexican Independence Day.

Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) of Karaganda, Kazakhstan, will fight a rematch against his No. 1 contender, the former WBC world middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) of Guadalajara, Mexico.

Golovkin is considered as boxing?s longest-reigning world champion. He won his first major world championship, the WBA interim middleweight title, by defeating Colombian Milton N??ez by first round KO in 2010. The WBA elevated him to regular champion in the same year.

?Gennady is always in shape. No excuses,? said trainer Abel Sanchez in Boxingscene.com. ?Gennady is a professional and he treats his world championship reign as a professional whether he is in training or not. That?s why he has been a world champion since 2010.?

"One thing you can count on with Gennady, he saves the big drama show for the fight not for training camp,? said Tom Loeffler, Golovkin?s promoter.

?He is already at the WBC?s seven-day weight limit (168 lbs). Gennady pressed the action in his first fight against Canelo, out-landing Canelo in 10 of the 12 rounds they fought. This time around, Gennady is determined to out-land him in every round for as long as the fight lasts.?

Alvarez also made his WBC mandated 30-day weight at 167.4-pounds also below the 176 lb. limit.
The Mexican star said he focused on performing his best against several criticisms on his formerly failed drug tests.

?I?ve already spoke about what has happened. I want to turn the page on this and focus on this big fight on Sept. 15. I want to move forward. The people know. I gave the explanation I needed to give at the moment I needed to give it. I?m 100% focused on this upcoming fight and nothing more," Canelo was quoted by Badlefthook.com.
