TOO MUCH MANNY FOR MATTHYSSE By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sun, 15 Jul 2018 Kuala Lumpur - Manny Pacquiao has not knocked out an opponent since 2009. His vaunted speed has decreased and his fans have been starving for a KO performance. Not Sunday Morning at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The 39 year old iconic fighter from the Philippines dethroned World Boxing Association welterweight champion, Lucas Matthysse with a performance that reminds you of the Manny Pacquiao of the past. Pacquiao sent the now previous champ from Argentina three times to the canvas. The first one in the 3rd round via a straight left then a right hook combo. Matthysse goes down again in the 5th via three successive hard jabs and finally in the 7th round via a left uppercut. He spit up his mouthguard after the knockdown - a sign of surrender - and Referee Kenny Bayless read the message and stopped the fight 2 minutes past the round. The boxer who is promoting his first fight with him as the main event wowed the spectators at ringside with punches that found a target in his opponent?s head and body. Matthysse has no answer to Pacquiao?s attack who stepped on the gas pedal immediately in the opening round. The former champion hurt his older foe with occasional single right hand shots but the Filipino icon took it well and then responded with combinations which halted any other attempts from the Argentinean. Manny Pacquiao does a press conference after stopping Lucas Matthysse. Pacquiao regains another world title at 147 pounds, one year after losing his WBO version of the belt to a controversial Unanimous Decision to Jeff Horn last year in Australia. He thanked the mostly Asian and Filipino fans who woke up early to get to the arena and recognized the leaders of his country and Malaysia who witnessed his brilliant performance. On the other hand, a disappointed Matthysse will return home to Argentina to rest and recuperate after the grueling title defense. He said that he lost to a great champion and will be looking forward to return to the ring after his rest. You can reach the author at rrmaze24@aol.com and @Freemazon910 on Twitter.
