IFUGAO PROSPECT MARTIN WINS WBO ORIENTAL YOUTH TITLE

Eighteen year old bantamweight Carl Jammes Martin of Lagawe, Ifugao kept his unbeaten record and captured a second regional title when he stopped Hashimu Zuberi of Tanzania in two rounds in a fight held Saturday at the Lagawe Central School Gym.
The vacant WBO Oriental Youth bantamweight title was at stake for the local boxer dubbed as ?Wonder Boy?. Martin previously won the interim WBC ABCO title by knocking out Thailand?s Artid Bamrungauea in two rounds December.
Videos of Martin?s win were uploaded on social media by the Ifugao Amateur and Professional Boxing Promotions.
The Tanzanian boxer was aggressive but the southpaw Martin landed clean counters and hard body shots. Martin knocked down Zuberi near the end of the first round with a series of hard right and left hooks.
Zuberi shook it off but in the second, but he was counted again after being staggered on his feet, He kept moving forward but after receiving a short hard right that sent him a one knee, the referee decided to stop it.
Martin is now 8W-0L,7KO?s. The 22 year old Zuberi drops to 14W-3L,4KO?s. Zuberi?s previous losses were to Andrew Moloney in Australia and Nirundon Thata in Thailand.
The WBO regional bout was supervised by Tony Comia.
