Jerwin Ancajas wows in US debut as he destroys Israel Gonzalez in 10

PhilBoxing.com

Jerwin Ancajas wanted to impress boxing fans in his first fight in the United States.

He did just that Saturday night at the Bank of America Center in Corpus Christi, Texas when he dismantled challenger Israel Gonzalez of Mexico in 10 rounds of action beamed live across the USA by ESPN.

Ancajas, now 29-1 and 20 KOs, dropped Gonzales early in the first and then twice in the 10th to successfully defend his
International Boxing Federation (IBF) Junior Bantamweight title for the fourth straight time.

Gonzalez has no answer against the Filipino champ, his strongest round was in the 3rd when he scored some big shots against Ancajas. He also started strong in the 5th, where he forced his Pinoy foe to retreat.

But even those strong showing by Gonzalez in those two rounds were not enough to upstage Ancajas who was lightning quick with his jabs and a hard left hand that is reminiscent of his idol - Manny Pacquiao.

Ancajas kept Gonzalez in the defensive with his sharp jabs, and when his Mexican foe drops his guard, a left hand is launched by the 26 year old champ from Panabo, Davao del Norte in the Philippines.

The end for the game Mexican challenger came at the 1:50 mark of the 10th. Ancajas launched a left that dropped Gonzalez in the early moments of the round. He stood up but was again floored with another rocket of a left hand that hit him in the forehead. Referee Rafael Ramos stopped the fight immediately after the second knockdown of the round.

Ancajas, 26, swept all 9 rounds against Gonzales, 21, in all three of the judges? cards at ringside. He also dominated the Compubox stats against a younger opponent who has never been knocked out and is riding an eight fight winning streak prior to this.

As Ancajas? hand was raised in victory in Texas, the Philippine flag was also simultaneously raised and with it the hopes of a boxing-crazy nation that is hungry for another high caliber fighter to watch and support.

Ancajas: ?It was a tough fight, but I felt very strong all throughout the fight and that's why I came out with the victory at the end.?
