By Oliver Iglesias PhilBoxing.com Fri, 02 Feb 2018
BOSTON ? No Kyrie Irving, no problem.
The Celtics were formidable even without its star point guard
and, beat the Knicks 103-73 before a sizeable crowd Wednesday night at the TD Garden.
Five Boston players finished in double figures while Terry Rozier salvaged his first career triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Marcus Morris came off the bench for 20 points, Jaylen Brown and Al Horford scored 14 points apiece, Jayson Tatum chipped in 15 points and Abdel Nader added 10 in a well-balanced Celtics attack that stunned the Knicks.
Center Enes Kanter and recent All-Star selection Kristaps Porzingis led the Knicks with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Kanter also pulled down 17 rebounds for the Knicks who are now 23-29 and fell to 10th in the East as it continues to battle for the last playoff spot.
Boston had a slim 50-45 halftime lead and staged a 31-20 offensive tear in the 3rd quarter and never looked back with an 81-65 lead. At 8:29 remaining in the 4th, Tatum sank a three-point dagger that sealed the fate for the Knicks with a 94-67 bulge.
Boston was 40-for-83 for 48.2% field goal conversion while the Knicks had 28-for-87 for a 32.2% clip.
Irving was out for tonight?s game due to a right quad contusion he sustained from the Denver game last Monday.
The Celtics is still the best in the East with a 37-15 record and will next face the Atlanta Hawks this Friday, February 2.
