GASANOV STUNS QU IN CHONGQING, DONG AND YANG WIN WBO GREATER CHINA BELTS By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Fri, 03 Nov 2017 Gasanov. CHONGQING, CHINA ? Russian Gasan Gasanov beat the hometown favorite Qu Peng of China and collected two regional belts ? the WBO Asia Pacific and WBA Asia light heavyweight titles. After a feeling out opening round, Gasanov became the aggressor and sent Qu on the backfoot with a hard head shot. Qu seemed sluggish for most of the fight and Gasanov easily overcame his height disadvantage. Qu?s right hand did land on a few occasions but it was Gasanov who landed the more telling blows all night long. The judges scores ? Sungworn Klungboonkrung (Thailand) ? 98-92, Mekin Sumon (Thailand) ? 96-94, Zhao Yanfang (China) ? 98-92. Qu drops to his second loss at 12W-2L-1D,8KO?s while Gasanov improves to 15W-5L-1D, 2KO?s. Supervising for the WBO was Asia Pacific VP Leon Panoncillo while Prommase Jaksurak represented the WBA. YANG AND DONG WIN WBO GREATER CHINA TITLES In a battle of unbeaten junior welterweights, Yang Yongqiang gave a dominant performance against Fu Kaisheng to capture the WBO Greater China title in the 140lb division. Yang?s power was the difference in the fight and he pinned and pummeled Fu on the ropes on several occasions. The scores ? Yuan Yunzi, Sungworn Klungboonkrung and Tao Zhuwu all had it 79-73. Fu drops to 6-1,1KO, Yang is now 8-0,6KO?s. Yang Yongqiang victorious against Fu Kaisheng for WBO Greater China light welterweight title. Dong Youli (new WBO Greater China welterweight champion). Dong Youli kept his undefeated record and won the WBO Greater China welterweight title in a slugfest against Abulimiti Tuersunniyazi. It was a back and forth battle but Dong?s body attack and punch variety was enough for the win. Scores ? Mark Leong and Han Hongxiang ? 79-73, Mekin Sumon ? 77-75. Abulimiti drops to his second loss at 4-2-1,3KO?s while Dong is now 10-0-1,6KO?s. LI TONGHUI WINS IBF ASIA TITLE Li Tonghui (China) had more trouble than expected against the more experienced Larry Siwu (Indonesia) but the Chinese boxer piled up enough points to win the IBF Asia junior middleweight title. Scores ? 96-94,96-94,98-92. Li is now 10-1,5KO?s, Siwu goes down to 26-10,22KO?s. Supervising for the IBF was Xiao Rong Qiang Li Tonghui (new IBF Asia junior middleweight champion). The fight between Filipino Adam Diu Abdulhamid of the Sanman Gym of Gen.Santos City and Chinese boxer Ik Yang was downgraded to an exhibition after Yang came in two divisions overweight. The fight was stopped in the second after an accidental clash of heads inflicted a cut on Yang. Zulpikaer Maimaitiali knocked down Yu Zhiying in round two and Yu?s corner decided not to continue fighting after round four. Zulpikaer is now 9-1-1,7KO?s and Yu is1-1. Last August Zulipikaer lost a close unanimous decision to Vijender Singh of India in Mumbai. Yu in his pro debut beat the more experienced Zheng Chengbo by split verdict in Jinan,China. For the rest of the undercard, Luo Yangyang got a unanimous verdict against Liu Qiang, Filipino Richard Garcia lost by TKO to Xu Da after Garcia?s corner decided to throw in the towel in round four, and the show was opened by cruiserweights Muhataer Maihemuti vs Zhu Xinglong with Zhu winning by unanimous decision. The fight card was held at the Wansheng Sports and Culture Stadium. The show was promoted by SECA and TOP RANK and supervised by the Professional Boxing Commission (PBC) of China.
