DUNO TO FIGHT IN US FOR WBC YOUTH LIGHTWEIGHT CROWN

PhilBoxing.com

WBC Asian Boxing Council super featherweight champion Romero ?Ruthless? Duno (12-1-0-11 KOs) of the Philippines will fight undefeated Mexican Christian ?Chimpa? Gonzales (16-0, 14 KOs) for the WBC Youth lightweight title on March 10 at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles, California, USA.

It will be the US debut for Duno, who has been training for more than a month now with former world champion Rodel Mayol at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.

Duno also already had a ?brief training? with the Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Gym in General Santos City last year.

Manager Dexter ?Wang Yu? Tan, Chief Finance Officer of Sanman Promotions in General Santos City said Duno ?needs to be at his best to pull an upset?.

?This is a big break for me. I know Gonzalez is a great fighter but this is the only chance I have to be great. I will do everything to get this victory,? said the 21-year old Duno.
Sanman Chief Executive Officer Jim Claude ?JC? Manangquil, on the other hand, said: ?Gonzalez is a great fighter but he should not take Duno lightly. He has all the tools to make an upset. He has massive heart and a big punch.?

The 5-foot-7 Duno was supposed to first fight against Lamonth Roach, who reportedly backed out after receiving reports of the Filipino?s punching power shown during his sparring sessions at the Wild Card Gym.

Duno captured the vacant WBC ABC super featherweight title by knocking out Thailand?s Paiboon Lorkham in the 2nd round last Sept. 10 in Tupi, South Cotabato.

Duno previously also stopped Gabby Simpo via a TKO in the 2nd round last Dec. 4 at the Robinson?s Mall Gensan.

Gonzales, on the other hand, kayoed three of his four opponents last year. He stopped David Rodela of California only in the 1st round on March 4 at Belasco Theatre and later scored a unanimous decision to Filipino Jhon ?The Disaster? Gemino in their 8-rounder bout held June 4 at the Stubhub Center in Carson, California.

Gonzales, 21, then scored two knockouts in his last two outings ? Mexico?s Jonathan Corrales (2nd round) and Colombia?s Jonathan Perez (3rd round).

?Meron yatang spy sa gym si Lamonth,? said Mayol?s assistant Sydney Godinez.

Duno had sparred already with Mexican champion Chris ?The Hitman? Avalos for eight rounds instead of only four. Duno rocked Avalos in the second round with a right cross. It was momentarily stopped to give Avalos time to recuperate.

The sparring was extended to four more rounds after the crowd shouted for more, ?una mas?.
