LEGAL BATTLE LOOMS OVER CONDES

PhilBoxing.com

A legal battle looms over the promotional rights to newly crowned IBF minimum weight champion as two sides plan to promote his next fight.

Filipino manager Aljoe Jaro had sought the help of Condes’ business manager Rod Nazario to stage a title defense against former champion Muhammad Rachman who, according to Nazario, has agreed to a rematch in Manila on November 16.

However, Cezar Trevino of Trevino Boxing who says he represents Bobby Bostick Promotions informed Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that since he had "not heard from anyone on behalf of Condes to negotiate a fight in the Philippines" they were moving ahead with a planned non-title bout against Mexico’s minimum weight champion Raul "Raiyto" Garcia in La Paz. Mexico on October 13.

Garcia won the minimum weight title of Mexico by a split decision over Sammy Gutierrez last June 15 and is undefeated with a record of 19-0-1 with 14 knockouts. He is scheduled to defend his title against Oscar Saturnino on August 31.

Trevino said he had submitted a bout agreement for the required signatures for Condes for the Garcia fight but left the door open for Condes’ next fight to be held in the Philippines telling Filipino co-manager Aljoe Jaro "please put me in contact with whoever you feel necessary to start negotiations."

In a second email after news of the plan to promote Condes’ first title defense in the Philippines was publicized Trevino claimed that Games and Amusements Board chairman Eric Buhain "will not honor" what Nazario and Aljoe Jaro are doing in setting up a fight for Condes in the Philippines.

At the same time he said he was shocked that after three days of heated discussions in the GAB Chairman’s office at which Aljoe Jaro and his lawyer Atty. Joey Mendoza "agreed to honor our contracts" and stated that Nazario "has nothing to do with Condes" they proceeded to "do as they wish and disrespect us, the boxing commission, the chairman and everyone involved including Condes."

Chairman Buhain told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that Aljoe Jaro and his lawyer Atty. Joey Mendoza had confirmed several times during their meetings "yes, we honor this contract" and that they "agreed with Trevino and even shook hands in front of me."

Buhain said Aljoe Jaro had perhaps "created a monster for themselves" but that he could not change his stance without looking bad in the eyes of the world boxing community.
