BAUTISTA HONORED TO CAPTAIN TEAM PHILIPPINES
By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sat, 04 Aug 2007

“Malaki pong karangalang ang maging captain ng mga kasama ko. Pipilitin ko pong manalo para sa kanila, sa ALA, sa pamilya ko at sa bayan natin,” Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista replied when asked about being designated as captain of Team Philippines. ( It is a huge honor to be the captain. I will try my best to win for them, for ALA, for my family and for our country).
With that, Golden Boy Promotions’ lead photographer, Rob DeLorenzo asked Boom Boom to pose with the $500,000 World Cup Trophy. Bautista gladly obliged and the media had a feast taking his pictures as he posed holding the very heavy trophy with one hand.
Bautista and the rest of the team members will continue to train until this Saturday when they are scheduled to break camp and prepare for the big trip to Sacramento. Sunday will be a total rest day.
The team will fly to Sacramento from the Burbank Airport and stay at the Best Western Hotel Sutter House in downtown Sacramento just a few miles from the Arco Arena. They will participate on week long media hoopla leading to the big fights on Saturday. During the week, they will also do light training and conditioning to keep their bodies well trimmed and prepared.
In the meantime, it is looking better and better for Z Gorres. Gorres had an eye problem some few days back. Eric Gomez, the GBP Senior Vice President and Michael Aldeguer informed yesterday that there is a huge probability Gorres will keep his place on the fight card. “All we need is the final okay from the eye specialist on Monday”, Gomes said.
Gorres for his part did not seemed concerned about the whole scenario. He just continued to train very hard hitting the punch mitts with such tremendous power that they seem to explode. From the standpoint of some of the pundits in the gym, Gorres indeed is primed and ready to go. So are the rest of the team members.
