NBA PLAYOFFS -- Spurs sweep through second round
By Homer D. Sayson PhilBoxing.com Mon, 25 Apr 2016

CHICAGO -- The San Antonio Spurs are through to the second round of the 2016 NBA playoffs.
Kawhi Leonard scored 21 points and seven rebounds and Tony Parker added 16 as the Spurs completed their first-round sweep of the Memphis Grizzlies following a 116-95 rout on Sunday afternoon at the FedEx Forum.
The efficient Spurs made 40 of 80 field goals (50 percent) and 10 of 22 triples (45.5 percent). They also won the rebounds battle, 41-36, while dishing more assists, 21-16.
Memphis, meanwhile, converted only 35 of 78 field goals, a 44. percent clip.
Despite being ravaged by injuries, missing the services of injured starters Mike Conley Jr and Marc Gasol, Memphis put up a good fight until San Antonio broke the game open with a 37-21 third quarter spurt. Lane Stephenson led the Grizzlies with 26 points while Matt Barnes and Zach Randolph finished with 15 apiece.
"It wasn't a fair fight. Whoever was available came out and executed to the best of their ability. They played with a lot of heart and a lot of fortitude," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich told the Associated Press in praise of the injury-stricken Grizzlies.
