Knockout predicted in Gonzales-Canillas encounter

PhilBoxing.com

Gonzales.

EDITO Villamor, chief trainer of the Antonio L. Aldeguer Boxing Stable, believes somebody will fall down when his ward Arjan Canillas trades punches with Roberto Gonzales of the Touch Gloves Boxing Gym.

??I?m sure that the fight will not last the distance,?? said Villamor, who guided Donnie ??Ahas?? Nietes and Merlito ??Tiger?? Sabillo to international ring glory.

Villamor, a former top-notch pro boxer himself, gave simple reasons on his prediction.

??Both Gonzales and Canillas are power punchers and they like to mix it up,?? said Villamor, who stressed that his ward is training very well before the big fight dubbed as Laban Pinoy on March 12 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Regarded by ring pundits as one of the biggest fights ever between two local boxers, Laban Pinoy, also features the bout between former world title contender Bernabe ??Abe?? Concepcion ((34-6-2, 20 KOs) and Jimmy Paypa (17-3-1, 6 KOs), who is another member of the ALA Boxing Stable.

??Fans will not be disappointed because both boxers are known for throwing big punches and unafraid to go toe-to-toe. This is going to be a thrilling bout,? said Saved by the Bell Promotion president Elmer Anuran, who also owns Touch Gloves Boxing Gym in Agoncillo, Batangas. Both fighters will dispute the vacant Philippine lightweight title.

The fight records of Gonzales and Canillas speak volumes on what fans can expect on fight night. Dubbed as the Bad Boy from Batangas because of his strong resemblance to disgraced former world champion Rolando Navarrete, Gonzales has a record of 26 wins, 2 losses, 0 draw, 16 knockouts).

Canillas, proud son of Toledo City, is no pushover. He has a clean 13-0 record, made sweeter by 10 knockouts.

A former boatman from tourist-magnet Puerto Galera in Occidental Mindoro, who now calls Agoncillo, Batangas home, Gonzales said he?s determined to win the national title which should prepare him for bigger fights in the future.

??I need to make a strong impression,?? said the 5-foot-7 Gonzales in Filipino. Canillas is a very good foe but I am determined to win the title.??

Gonzales lost to Japanese Hirohito Fukuhara last November in Sambo Hall, Hyogo, Japan, but since then won his last six fight, two by knockouts.

??I learned my lessons well after losing in Japan. I am glad that my training is going very well,?? said Gonzales, who also bowed to Ryan Sermona last 2012.

Canillas is actually ranked number one in the latest Games and Amusements Board rankings with Gonzales at second spot. The bout is scheduled for 12 rounds.
