ALA Boys World Cup Participants Will Sport Custom-Made Mouth Guards By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Thu, 19 Jul 2007 Today, Michael Domingo and Bert Batawang accompanied by their trainer Jeremiah Quijano, were at our offices to be fitted with custom-made mouth guards. They will use the new mouth guards for their fights on August 11th in the World Cup of Boxing at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, California. The job would have had been done much earlier but unfortunately yours truly was in Cebu to cover the SGG Fight card at the Waterfront Hotel last July 7th and thereafter went to Australia for a short vacation. It was not until today that arrangements were made for them to visit our offices. Batawang was fitted with black and yellow mouth guard and Micahel Domingo was given the official ALA Gym color of red and black. With the fitting of mouth guards for Domingo and Batawang, now all the ALA Gym gladiators involved in the World Cup including Z Gorres, AJ Banal and Boom Boom Bautista had been fitted with custom made mouth guards. Even Diosdado Gabi, who is not really from the ALA Gym but will be in the fight card, will be wearing one of our signature mouth guards. Bert Batawang (L-Top photo) and Michael Doming (L-Bottom photo) poses with Dr. Ed de la Vega respectively at the latter's clinic in Canoga Park to be fitted with their mouth guards. The mouth guards custom made for Domingo and Batawang as well all the others we have done in the past for Pinoy boxers who come to our offices were given free of charge. On top of that since the Wildcard Gym in Hollywood is quite a distance from our offices, transport is provided to facilitate their visit to our offices. Today, Domingo, Batanwang and Quijano even got a bonus. They were given brand new training shoes for use when they go running up the hills of the Griffith Park in Hollywood. Next in line to be fitted a new custom mouth guard will be Gerry Penalosa who is fighting Johnny Gonzales of Mexico for the bantamweight title. Gerry is expected to have his fitted next week. At the present time, with the kind help of PhilBoxing’s Salven Lagumbay, we are looking at ways to get in touch with Rodel Mayol who is based at a Top Rank training camp in Las Vegas so we can make a mouth guard for him when he comes to Los Angeles in a few days for a pres-con. Hopefully, his handlers will realize the importance of such device and find ways to bring him to us and give us the opportunity to help protect Mayol during his title fight against Solis in Chicago early next month.
