NBA -- Too much Heat for Mavericks, 106-82
By Roman David Garay PhilBoxing.com Sun, 03 Jan 2016

MIAMI - Dwyane Wade didn't start the game for the Heat Friday night at American Airlines Arena. He had flu-like symptoms and was treated with intravenous fluids at the onset, so he didn't join his teammates until the second quarter, just the 10th time in his 13-year career that he came off the bench.
Wade played just 19 minutes, but it didn't matter as the Heat coasted against the visiting Dallas Mavericks 106-82.
Hassan Whiteside led five Heat players with double figures with 25 points and 19 rebounds. Gerald Green netted 19 points off the bench while Goran Dragic added 15 points and 7 dimes.
The Mavs struggled to score against the leech-like team defense of Miami and put up just 10 points in the first quarter which eventually mirrored their performance the whole night. Dallas shot just 36.4 percent from the field compared to Miami's 56.1 percent, including 7 of 31 from the three-point area. The Mavs also got outrebounded 40 to 50 in their first game.
"The bottom line with this tonight is they played an angrier game," Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said after the game. "The combination of that, and our shot-making was just not there all night, we just lost a little bit of our edge."
Zaza Pachulia paced Dallas with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Wes Matthews added 12 points and Dirk Nowitzky chipped in 11 points but on 4 of 14 shooting.
"Just not a good night overall, on both ends of the floor," an exasperated Nowitzki described post-game . "But we kept fighting. Every time we got a little momentum, we either made a big mistake on the other end or they made a big shot."
Dallas will look to bounce at home against the New Orleans Pelicans Saturday, while Miami will play its 2nd out of 17 scheduled games in January and hope to carry its winning ways against the Washington Wizards on Sunday.
