SAN ANTONIO -- The San Antonio Spurs kept their home unbeaten streak alive this season following a 114-95 thrashing of the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night at the AT&T Center.
Kawhi Leonard tallied 27 points and four steals while LaMarcus Aldridge chipped in 14 points and six rebounds. Manu Gnobili and Patty Mills registered 11 points apiece as the Spurs improved to 14-0 in their building.
While the Golden State Warriors remains on top of the overall standings at 25-1, the Spurs have quietly and steadily stayed at No.2 with a 22-5 slate. San Antonio, which leads the NBA in various defensive categories, held Washington to just 35 of 84 from the field (41.7 percent) and 3-of-15 from 3-point range (20 percent).
Despite missing the services of two key players -- Bradley Beal and Nene -- the Wizards trailed on by three at halftime, 55-52. But the Spurs defense held Washington to just 19 third quarter points to open up an 86-71 bubble entering the fourth quarter.
John Wall and Marcin Gortat led the Wizards with 20 points each. Wall also dished 11 assists while Gortat hauled down 11 rebounds. Kelly Oubre Jr contributed 18 off the bench but the Wizards were outrebounded 43-38 and were outscored in the paint, 48-40.
Washington dropped to 10-14, 12th place in the Eastern Conference.
