MayPac Fight- The Aftermath By Estace Yambot PhilBoxing.com Tue, 08 Sep 2015 Few months removed from the Mayweather vs Pacquiao Fight, boxing fans are still reeling from the greatest debacle of all time. It is the highest grossing fight ever that no one will ever remember nor care for, what everyone will remember is the disbelief, the unbelievable feeling of getting robbed in broad daylight, of feeling cheated that there is nothing you or anyone else can do about it. It was the biggest letdown that left a very bitter taste in the mouth of every fight fan. And still does. Pac fans of course attacked Mayweather, that he did not come to fight. All he did was run all night, yet with all these 'running', everyone knows including Freddie Roach that Floyd won, except Pacquiao! Money Mayweather, hate him or love him, stayed true to his style of boxing, to hit and not to get hit. And so he did. Manny Pacquiao is our hero. From abject poverty he battled and persevered in life through boxing. With a little luck he rose to prominence not by defeating a world champion but to have the chance to fight with a few weeks notice as a late replacement. The rest is history. Not only did he knocked out Ledwaba, Manny annihiliated him. What follows afterwards is the greatest display of boxing the fight world has witnessed only during the time of the great Archie Moore, Pacquiao one by one defeated all the marquee names in boxing, doing so while moving up in weight from a measly featherweight all the way to junior middleweight destroying the great champions of this generation- Barrera, Marquez, Morales, Dela Hoya, Cotto, Mosley, Margarito. From a total unknown to becoming a legend. The true definition of the word underdog, what else can have a better Hollywood script than that? With the Money fight, Manny initially tried to bring it, but as the fight progressed he became increasingly frustrated that he can't crack the MayVinci Code. And by the 3rd round, the bout became so predictable, the lack of action, that when Manny attempts to engage Floyd potshots him and stay out of the range. Manny never get to establish any rhythm and as the fight wore on, Pacquiao just went with the flow. We expected more than that, way more than that from Manny, But there was no urgency, no display of warrior heart, no underdog story. The fight as we all know now was a farce. Conspiracy theorists declared this as a fixed fight, that the two protagonists came only to get paid. The fight as a 500 million dollar fiasco. Someone took hard earned money from our hand and simply walked away with it. We all got fooled, dumbfounded and feeling stupid. Coming in we all knew Mayweather was going to be Mayweather, to be as boring as can be, but to win. Pacquiao on the other hand was the dynamo, the Tazmanian Devil that will pepper you with shots in blinding speed, the warrior king that comes to fight, that will bring it anytime, anywhere. The Pacquiao that we saw that night was not the same Pacquiao. His performance was so underwhelming and he did not do whatever it takes to get to Mayweather. Maybe the Marquez knock out took something out of him, but one thing is certain, he was not 'Pacquiao' that night. Pacquiao was the ultimate anti-Pacquiao. Not only was he not gracious in his defeat, he even offered alibis and excuses. Had he accepted defeat and offered even a little bit of credit to Floyd, we would have understood it and would not think of him as less of a fighter or a man. But to be a bad sport after that loss, is hard to swallow. Mayweather was not to be exulted after the win, but Manny was relegated to the dumpster after that lost. That was the lowest of Manny Pacquiao. Boxing after all is a prizefighting sport. Manny got his Money. And we all lost. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Estace Yambot. |
