BIG TIME BOXING IN CALBAYOG CITY
By Felman Gingoyon PhilBoxing.com Sat, 05 Sep 2015
Pro boxing shifts to the western part of the Visayas as Calbayog City in Samar play host to another prizefighting event. Dubbed as "Mano-A-Mano sa Fiesta San Calbayog", the competition will be held at the Calbayog City Sports Center on the 6th of September at 6 pm.
Main attraction of the promotion will feature Panabo City-native and Asian Boxing Federation featherweight champion Neil John Montalban Tabanao aka "Tabanao NJ Singwangcha" against savvy veteran Marvin Tampus of Bato, Leyte in a 10-round non-title affair. Slick punching Tabanao, who fights out of the Flores Boxing Academy lost his unbeaten streak via a very close split decision to Randy Braga for the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) 126-pound title at the Elorde Sports Complex in his last bout. Alvin Makiling of Cagayan de Oro City was supposed to be the original opponent for the rising up-and comer Tabanao but was forced to pull out.
Other scheduled bouts include JR Salvador of Phil-Aust Boxing Gym against Rambo Lagos of Valencia, Bukidnon for 8 rounds, Margarito Moya, aka "Moya M Singwangcha" of Flores Boxing Academy vs. Renan Portes of Bukidnon in another 8 round bout, Edwin Mondala of Bato, Leyte against Arnel Coactoy of Leyte for 6 rounds, Edison Serrano of Mandaue City vs. Arnel Acebuque of Valencia City in Bukidnon. First pro contest of the night will feature Jun Flores against Feljun Taneo of Ormoc City for 4 rounds. Open boxing bouts are also scheduled as lead-in and is expected to showcase the young amateur talents in the Samar and Leyte area.
