KOREANS OPTIMISTIC IN REGAINING BOXING GLORY!

PhilBoxing.com

SEOUL, KOREA--The local boxing authorities and personalities here have expressed renewed optimism that Korean boxing will soon regain its lost glory, as they now turn their attention to the new talents they are nurturing for the future.

Avid boxing benefactor and marketing man Lee Dong Gyu, who recently inked a partnership agreement with ALA Boxing Gym and SGG Sports Promotion, has indicated that he is over the moon for hooking up with his new Filipino partner, and hinted that he is keeping his fingers crossed that 'this is going to be forever.'

Lee assured top Filipino promoter Sammy Gello-ani of his all-out support, as he plans to tap his corporate connections to bring back fresh blood into the sport in his country.

"I want to help. I will help. I have plans for the future. Hope this is forever," Lee told Gello-ani.

For their first project, Lee has committed to support the big July 7 card presented by Gello-ani at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel featuring Czar Amonsot defending his WBO Asia-Pacific title and AJ 'Bazooka' Banal going up for the WBO Asia-Pacific Youth superfly crown.

Also set to see action is Korean Yong Sung Kim, who will defend his WBO Asia-Pacific interim junior welter title against Indonesia's Tunggal Joko of the Eddie Pireh Stable.

"If you noticed at the Korean Boxing Commission office, they have several photos of their past world champions. Why is it that today, only In jin Chi remains? Now, they want to bring back the glory days," explained Gello-ani.

Electronics giant Samsung, a leading worldwide brand, will sponsor the July 7 show at the Waterfront Hotel, according to Lee.

Last April, SGG and the Korean group announced their collaboration at a press conference held in Cebu City, informing the media that the partnership is expected to give Filipino and Korean boxers much-needed exposure and ring activities through the involvement of television in the Philippines and abroad.

The July 7 card will be telecast in South Korea through the KBS Sports Channel as well as in the Philippines through national television.
