1,000 JOURNALISTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD COVER #MAYPAC

PhilBoxing.com

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The record media attendance has already been shattered even before the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather million dollar fight could break all existing norms in pay-per-view, gate attendance and revenue in the 125-year history of boxing.

A total of 1,000 journalists have been accredited to cover the 12-round bout between the two finest welterweights in the world, which according to Top Rank media relations head Fred Sternberg, represents the most number of credentials given in any boxing event.

Of this number, 700 represent he broadcast media -- television and radio -- while 300 represent the different print media outfits, according to a PR staff member of the MGM Grand Arena.

The biggest television outfits throughout the world -- CBS, BBC, ABC, CNN, Fox and ESPN -- to mention a few, are cramped in the media tent reserved for the print media men and women and the broadcast media center in the second floor of MGM fronting the Arena entrance.

The list of journalists here comprises the giants in the business such as Lance Pugmire and Bill Dwyre of the Los Angeles Times, Greg Bishop of Sports Illustrated, Norm Frauenheim of Arizona Republic, Andy Scott of UK's Sky Sports, Larry Merchant of HBO, Tim Dahlberg of Associated Press, Kevin Mitchell of The Guardian, John Debarzo The New York Post, Gareth Davies of The Daily Telegraph, Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports, Dan Rafael of ESPN and Carlo Rotello of The New York Times, among others.

Despite the fact though that one of the protagonists in the fight -- World Boxing Organization 147-pound champion Manny Pacquiao -- is a Filipino, only 55 media personnel from the Philippines have been issued credentials. Make it 57, including two from the Los Angeles-based Asian Journal.

Of this number only twenty-two represent five Philippine print media outlets and two websites. Thirty five are television reporters, cameramen and technical people.

The Filipino print journalists who are here are Inquirer's Jun Engracia, Roy Luarca, Francis Ochoa, Mark Giongco and Ren Zamora; Abac Cordero, Quinito Henson and Dino Maragay of the Philippine Star; Ding Marcelo and Nick Giongco of Manila Bulletin;

Virgie Romano of Abante; Miramon Nuevo of Tribune; Dong Secuya, Ed dela Vega and Ritz Mazon of Philboxing; and Gerry Ramos, Jerome Ascano and Snow Badua of Spin.ph; Robert Macabagdal and Mylah de Leon represent L.A.-based Asian Journal; Rey Fortaleza of the Vancouver-based Asian News Today; Wendell Rupert Alinea of Philboxing and Asian Fight Scene; veteran television broadcasters Connie Sison of GMA 7 and Dyan Castillejo of ABS-CBN head the list of Filipino broadcasst media covering the fight.

Sison is joined by Mark Zambrano, Jessica Soho, Vicky Morales, Lei Alviz, Jojo Tagle, Don Morales, Bojie Sonza, Melchor Quinos, Jhay Otamias, Peter Dumaual, Paul Morales, Ricky Morales, Redgie Magno and Marivin Arayata in the Channel 7 coverage team.

With Castillejo in the ABS-CBN team are Steve Angeles, Abner Mercado, Val Cuenca, Joey Romblon, Cris Panlubasan, TJ Manotoc, Ronnie Nathanielsz, Ben Llorente, Yong Chavez and Angel Valderama.

TV-5 sends a small coverage team composed of Chiqui Roa-Puno, Trish Roque, Mark Andrew Ortiz and Dave Gonzales.
