NBA -- Hornets survive Lakers, 104-103

CHARLOTTE -- The Charlotte Hornets squeaked out a 104-103 tightly contested victory over the visiting Los Angeles Lakers at the Time Warner Cable Arena, Tuesday night.
The first half saw the two teams fighting toe to toe with neither one giving an inch. The score was 50-50 at the halftime beak.
In the third quarter, the Hornets came out aggressive as shots started falling for them. The Lakers, meanwhile lost their touch as they trailed by as many as 11.
In the fourth period, the persistent Lakers led by the duo of Jeremy Lin (23 points, 8 assists) and Jordan Clarkson (19 points) managed to tie the count at 84-all but could not take the lead as Gerald Henderson hit some key baskets to create some separation.
"We played a good game offensively. We continue to go to Al (Jefferson), they were double teaming him so we did a better job in getting guys on their spots", Gerald Henderson said.
With one minute left and the Hornets leading 95-92, Mo Williams hit a three pointer to subdue the threat. He then made 5 of 6 charities to seal the victory.
All five starters for the Hornets scored in double figures. Al Jefferson had 21 points and 16 rebounds, Gerald Henderson also had 21, Cody Zeller contributed 10 points, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist added 12, Mo Williams finished with 20 points and 13 assists, his third double double since joining the Hornets.
The Hornets (25-33) is now tied with the Brooklyn Nets for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference. The two teams will meet tomorrow (Wednesday) as the Hornets visit the Nets.
The Lakers meanwhile who has been out of contention early dropped to 16-43.
