DONAIRE DROPS SANDOVAL IN TEN ROUND SPARRING SESSION
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 22 Feb 2015

Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? showed some of the fire that helped him become the 2012 ?Fighter of the Year? when he dropped sparring partner Cisco Sandoval in the second round of a ten round session at the Donaire Boxing and Fitness Gym in Oakland, California which is owned by his father/trainer ?Dodong? Donaire.
The father/trainer in an overseas telephone conversation with the Manila Standard/Viva Sports said ?Nonito looks good, looks real fast and his old form is back.?
He revealed that in the past Nonito had a hard time against Sandoval but not anymore.?Dodong? Donaire said they had watched four tapes of his March 28th opponent 31 year old William Prado of Brazil who has a record of 22-4-1 with 15 knockouts and noted that he ?come forward, throws shots to the body and he can punch? which meant that ?The Filipino Flash? certainly ?cannot take it easy.?
He said he is impressed by the fact that Nonito who at one time was No. 5 in the Ring Magazine pound for pound rankings was "getting smarter?.
The 32 year old Donaire who is fighting once again as a super bantamweight has a record of 33-3 with 21 knockouts and is determined to show he?s back after his devastating 6th round TKO loss to Nicholas ?Axe Man? Walters by a 6th round TKO in Macau last October 18.
?Dodong? Donaire said they will arrive in Manila on March 1 and will fly to Cebu on the Friday of that week for two weeks of intense training in Cebu at the famed ALA Gym as he prepares for the blockbuster ?Pinoy Pride 30? fight card at the Mall of Asia Arena which will be headlined by the longest reigning Filipino world champion, WBO light flyweight king Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes who will face mandatory challenger Francisco Rodriguez Jr of Mexico.
