NBA -- Hornets sting Pelicans behind Walker's heroics By Eric Biasbas PhilBoxing.com Fri, 09 Jan 2015 CHARLOTTE -- The Charlotte Hornets showed a lot of sting on Wednesday night and won their third straight by edging the visiting New Orleans Pelicans, 98-94, at the Time warner Cable Arena. Kemba Walker banked a difficult shot that broke a 94-94 tie with 1.4 seconds left. Walker, who was hacked by Jrue Holiday, cashed in the bonus free throw to give Charlotte a three-point cushion, much to the delight of the 15,171 fans in attendance. In the ensuing play, Marvin Williams stole the Pelicans; inbounds pass, was fouled, and then split his free throws for the final margin. When asked if he would have drawn up a play with Walker not taking the final shot, Hornets head coach Steve Clifford quipped, "No. If I try to draw something else up, he would just erase it." The Hornets went cold in the first half, shooting just 38.6 percent (17 of 44 field goals). The Pelicans, meanwhile, shot 47.2 percent (17of-36 field goals). But things warmed up for Charlotte in the second half where Gerald Henderson, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Walker started making shots "We were really fortunate to be down by only seven at halftime. They totally outplayed us,". Clifford said."I think in the second half, we moved the ball better. We played with good purpose". Walker had 31 points to lead the 13-24 Hornets while Gerald Henderson had 16. The Hornets gun for a season-tying fourth straight victory when they take on the Raptors on Friday night. Anthony Davis finished with 32 pts and 12 rebounds for the Pelicans. Jrue Holliday pitched in 16 points and nine assists for New Orleans, which dropped to 17-18 and will face the Memphis Grizzlies on Jan. 9.
