NBA -- Gasol carries Bulls past Celtics in OT

CHICAGO -- With Derrick Rose unable to find his shot and Jimmy Butler out on bereavement leave, Pau Gasol stepped up to the plate on Saturday night and dished one of his finest performances of the season.
The 7-foot Spaniard finished with 29 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks to help the Chicago Bulls ward off a stubborn Boston Celtics, 109-104, in overtime at the United Center.
Four other players scored in double figures for the Bulls, who won nine of their last 10 assignments and kept their third place spot in the Eastern Conference with a 24-10 record.
Aaron Brooks came up with 19 points off the bench while Taj Gibson and Derrick Rose, who made only 5-of-18 shots, finished with 12 each. Nikola Mirotic, starting in place of the injured Mike Dunleavy, added 10 points and eight boards.
It was a back-and-forth affair that featured 16 lead changes and 12 ties. The Celtics led by as many as eight points while the Bulls lead by as many as 10.
A missed Taj Gibson free throw in the final 22 seconds of regulation allowed the Celtics to force overtime after Jared Sullinger scored off of an offensive rebound. following a missed Jeff Green lay-up.
Bu the Celtics were unable to capitalize and they didn't score until there was only 1:38 left in the extra session.
Evan Turner made 12 of 22 field goals to lead the Celtics with 29. Sullinger had 16 points and 16 rebounds and Jeff Green had 11.
The loss dropped Boston to 11-20, 10th place in the Eastern Conference but just 1 1/2 games behind a playoffs berth.
