NBA -- Too much Westbrook dooms Spurs, 114-106

CHICAGO -- Despite their best efforts, the San Antonio Spurs couldn't stop Russell Westbrook, who proved to be too fast, too quick that anyone else on the court on Christmas Day.
The 6-foot-3 Westbrook aggressively attacked the basket and made 14-of-28 field goals for 34 points to carry the Oklahoma City Thunder over the host San Antonio Spurs on Thursday afternoon at the AT&T Center. Westbrook also added 11 assists, five rebounds and five steals to his impressive loot.
It was a much-needed win for the Thunder, who played without reigning MVP Kevin Durant (sprained ankle) for the fourth straight game. The Thunder improved their mark to 14-16, just two games shy of the eighth and last playoffs berth in the Western Conference.
Serge Ibaka was also stellar for Oklahoma with 21 points and nine boards while Steven Adams chipped in 15 points and 16 rebounds. Anthony Morrow drilled in 15 and Perry Jones added 14 for the Thunder, who made 42 of 81 field goals and 9-of-15 triples.
Matt Bonner led the Spurs with 17 and Tim Duncan had 15.
San Antonio, which was out-rebounded 47-38, fell to 18-12, seventh place in the Western Conference. (Homer D. Sayson)
