NBA -- Celtics trade Rondo to Mavericks

CLEVELAND -- The Boston Celtics pulled a blockbuster trade on Thursday night and sent point guard Rajon Rondo off to the Dallas Mavericks.

The Mavericks also acquired Dwight Powell, Brandan Wright, Jae Crowder, Jameer Nelson and draft picks. The Celtics, meanwhile, will receive a conditional first-round pick in the 2015 draft, a second-rounder in 2016 and a $12.9 million trade exception.

The 28-year old Rondo, who helped guide Boston to the 2008 NBA title, is one of the league's most dynamic point guards. He is averaging 8.3 points and an NBA-best 10.8 assists per game this season.

Rondo is a 4-time All-Star, 2-time assists leader and one-time steals leader.

"My time in Boston has meant so much. I've grown up with this city both as a basketball player and person. The love I have for the most loyal and supportive fans in the league is unmatched. I look forward to building something special in Dallas," Rondo said.

Pending a physical, Rondo will suit up Saturday when the Dallas Mavericks host the San Antonio Spurs at the American Airlines Center.
