NBA --Hawks exact revenge, pounce on Cavaliers, 127-98 By Jose Carlos Monroy PhilBoxing.com Thu, 18 Dec 2014 CLEVELAND -- The Atlanta Hawks blew the Cleveland Cavaliers out their building by making 49 of 76 field goals en route to a 127-98 rout on Wednesday night at the Quicken Loans Arena. It was sweet revenge for the Hawks, who got creamed for 33 points by the Cavs last November. In that first meeting, Cleveland became the first team in NBA history to shoot a perfect 9-for-9 beyond the 3-point line in a single quarter, a feat allowed the Cavs to set a franchise record of 19 triples made in a game. In Wednesday night's rematch, though, the Hawks turned the tables by making 16 of their 28 threes while Cleveland struggled, missing 22 of their 30 attempted triples. The Hawks staged a balanced offensive assault, one which resulted in seven players finishing with double figures in points. Shelvin Mack came off the bench with 24 points while Al Horford had 20. Mike Scott drilled 15 and Paul Millsap added 14. Demarre Carroll and Pero Antic contributed 13 and 11, respectively. Without their injured leader, Jeff Tague ( strained left hamstring), Dennis Schroder assumed the point guard duties and acquitted himself extremely well with 10 points and 10 assists. Lebron James paced the Cavs with 21 points while Kevin Love, who played despite manifesting flu-like symptoms, managed 13 points and 10 boards. Dion Waiters sparkled off the bench with 21 but Kyrie Irving was held to nine points and six assists. ?That was embarrassing how we played and I apologize to all the good fans that came out here, as they always do. It was just a poor performance,? Cavs head coach David Blatt told reporters. The Hawks led 95-75 after three quarters and coach Blatt wasn't pleased. ?Atlanta played well offensively and we just didn?t defend at any point, almost any point in the game, with the exception of the first part of the game. ? The Hawks snapped the Cavs' six-game home winning streak and lost for the first time in 10 games against Eastern Conference teams. The Hawks improved to 18-7 and have won 13 of their last 15 games. The Cavs dropped to 14-10 but remained in fifth place in the Eastern Conference. Photo: LeBron James frustration mirrored pain of the Cavaliers' 127-98 defeat at the hands of the Atlanta Hawks.
