ROCKY FUENTES NO MATCH FOR ?CHOCOLATITO? GONZALEZ
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 23 Nov 2014
Former Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation flyweight champion Rocky ?The Road Warrior? Fuentes proved to be no match for the unbeaten Nicaraguan Roman ?Chocolatito? Gonzalez, the three-time world champion who made the first defense of his WBC title in Yokohama on Saturday.
Gonzalez dropped Fuentes in the sixth round and with what were described as merciless combinations upstairs and downstairs and then caught the Filipino with a flurry of punches to earn a stoppage at 2:11 of the round.
With the win Gonzalez improved his record to 41-0 with 35 knockouts while Fuentes, who had earlier lost by a unanimous decision to IBF champion Amnat Ruenroeng of Thailand, dropped to 35-8-2 with 20 knockouts.
The handlers of Fuentes including strength and conditioning coach Nick Curson had said Fuentes was in great shape and predicted a possible upset but on fight night Gonzalez dominated the ALA Gym fighter who, according to Asian Boxing Scene was ?brimming with confidence despite the fact that many fans had written him off going into the fight against the sensational ?Chocolatito.?
