ROACH IS CONFIDENT PACQUIAO WILL KO BRONER SOONER OR LATER

Hall of Fame trainer awardee Freddie Roach predicts that his favorite protégé Manny Pacquiao will become the first fighter to knock Adrien Broner out on January 19 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. “He (Broner) does have a good chin,” Roach told Boxing Scene. “But the game plan is to break him down, break the body down and he’ll go, sooner or later.”

Team Pacquiao knew that the Filipino's tenacious coercion will force Broner to trade punches with him. That is the time when Pacquiao can hit Broner with the powerful blow that will send him to the canvas and end the fight with a knockout. “He’s always had the power and so forth,” Roach said. “It’s just part of it is in his head, where he didn’t have to hurt his opponents. But that went away in the last fight, and I hope that stays away.”

Pacquiao had a very convincing stoppage of Lucas Matthysse, putting the Argentine down thrice (once each in the third, fifth and seventh rounds). Kenny Bayless stopped their fight at 2:43 of the seventh round, and it was his first KO victory since he stopped Angel Cotto in the 12th round on November 2009.

In Episode 1 of “All Access: Pacquiao Vs. Broner” Pacquiao stated his political life in Showtime. “From the beginning, it’s not my plan to enter politics because I hate politics,” Pacquiao was quoted by Boxing Scene. “The Senate work, the budget deliberations is gonna be long. But I have to go to the gym and train. And I want to help more people. It’s about giving. It’s about doing your job. It’s about solving the problems.”

The Overseas Filipino Workers have a special place in his heart. “OFWs is very important to our country,” Pacquiao said, “because they’re the ones who are bringing dollars from other countries to the Philippines. I work hard to pass my bill, OFW handbook, for them, and they can have at least support and protection. God put me in this situation to serve honestly, stop corruption, to help the people. That’s my goal for being a boxer and being a politician.”

A potential cross-sport bout between Floyd Mayweather and UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is hugging the headlines. Khabib's manager Ali Abdelaziz made claims that Mayweather has been pressing him behind the scenes to make a fight with Khabib.

* * *

“Me and him have been texting each other for the last month and if he says he did not, I’m gonna put everything online. Do not lie, Floyd. He’s very much begging for the fight. I told him, I said he’s 57 years old, his body’s weak, he’s fragile, he’s got a small head. People think I’m crazy but I think Khabib would beat his ass," Abdelaziz told TMZ.

* * *

"He thinks Khabib is easy money but Khabib is much younger, much stronger, more tougher than Conor, a guy that went to the eleventh round with him. And Conor gave up, he’s a quitter. Khabib is no quitter," added Abdelaziz.

Former three division world champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley believes his former foe Floyd Mayweather was always afraid of losing and his utmost career goal was to retire undefeated. "Floyd is so afraid to lose, and he grew up in a different era. In the era that I grew up in, it was about 'who is the best and I will fight anybody in my way.'"

* * *

"In Floyd's era, it was a bout 'we're not gonna lose, because if we lose everything is gonna be messed up.' He wanted to win so bad, and keep his '0' so bad, that he would wait until the guys were at the right time, weight or age.... past their prime or even coming in too young," Mosley told Fox Sports.
