MELVIN Gumban showcases his wares again as he leads a cast of young up-and-comers in Cobra Tunay na Lakas Boxing this weekend in Bacolod City.
Gumban slugs it out with Jeson Luzarito in a 10-round main event this Saturday night at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center.
Expect an improved 24-year-old Gumban because this is the first time he will see action after honing his skills in Japan as a sparring partner for World Boxing Council (WBC) Naoya Inoue in Japan.
Gumban, known as a slick fighter, breezed past his stiffest test in his last fight, totally outclassing tough Jason Egera by a lopsided unanimous verdict.
For 22-year-old Luzarito, it should be a perfect opportunity to score an upset and set his already rocky career on the right path.
After winning six of his first eight career bouts, he has only won just two of his next nine fights.
Luzarito, however, is experienced and has fought the likes of interim World Boxing Association (WBA) flyweight champion Yodmongkol Vor Saengthep and world-rated Wanheng Menayothin.
Gumban is unbeaten with a 17-0 slate including eight knockouts, while Luzarito is 8-6-3 with three knockouts.
Juren Labordo (12-2, 8 KOs) looks to bounce back from a knockout loss to Fernando Ocon in August as he takes journeyman Ryan Tampus (11-11, 8 KOs) in the main supporting bout.
In the undercard, 19-year-old Rafael Sueno (1-1, 1 KO) faces off with Fritz Cabilla (1-2), James Paul Talaman (1-0, 1 KO) locks horns with Sonny Basanez (0-2), Archie Moyani is up against Mac Mac Baribar, Ricardo Sueno takes on Kavin Parrenas, Kenneth Neron faces Jay Solomon (1-0, 1 KO), and Jeffrey Concerman is fighting Holly Quinones (0-1).
