GLAN, Sarangani ? Filipino boxing idol and Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel Pacquiao wants to leave a political legacy with untainted and incorruptible track record.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of the town?s centennial celebration here recently, Pacquiao said he wanted that people would remember his legacy not just in boxing but also in public service.
?I want the people to remember me not only as the world?s eight-division boxing champion, but also as public servant who is not corrupt,? Pacquiao said.
The boxer-turned-lawmaker said he was challenged to join the world of politics to prove that not all government officials are corrupt.
Despite the absence of his Priority Development Assistance Fund, Pacquiao shelled out some R12 million from his personal fund to bankroll the town?s 100th foundation anniversary which will culminate on Wednesday.
Mayor Victor James Yap thanked Pacquiao for giving out his personal money to make the centennial festivities possible.
?Cong. Manny Pacquiao is truly a gift from above. I could not imagine how to make our centennial celebration colorful and successful without him. And take note, the R12 million budget came not from PDAF or DAP but from his own pocket.?
The Supreme Court has ruled as constitutional the controversial Priority Development Assistance Fund and the Disbursement Acceleration Program which had been the source of kickbacks for scoundrels in the legislative and executive branches of government. (Joseph Jubelag)
