I feel for the idiots who spend a lifetime hunting down UFOs, the Loch NessMonster, and Big Foot. All that time wasted looking for an elusive creature. I am starting to feel I have more in common with those paranormal freaks than boxing fans, as I have spent well over a week trying to pin down Jorge Solis.
No, Solis does not come from Saturn, live in the woods, or swim in the murky waters of some distant lake. Jorge just has the difficult task of entering the United States from Mexico and taming Manny Pacquiao in the ring on Saturday, April 14.
Though he has an unblemished record of 32-0-2 (23 KOs), the native of Guadalajara, Mexico is a relative unknown. From obscurity into the Pacquiao frying pan, a true trial by fire.
For the last few weeks, I have been trying to get a hold of Solis in an attempt to introduce him to the English speaking world, or at the very least the handful of drunks who read Boxing Confidential.
Unfortunately, Solis has been busy with training and with visa issues. Apparently the United States government has made it difficult for the Mexican to enter the country.
According to Ricardo Jimenez of Top Rank, Solis is in Guadalajara resolving those visa problems and should be traveling to the states shortly and will be presented to the Los Angeles media sometime next week.
No worries Pacmaniacs, your sacrificial lamb is on its way, or is it a wolf in sheep’s clothing? Solis is no gimme’ as Mr. Pacquiao seems more focused on his political aspirations than work out perspiration.
Ah, prized fighting, you have to love it! Will Jorge Solis get a visa? Is Manny Pacquiao focused? Will the fight end in the first round with a clash of heads? Will the Loch Ness Monster appear in San Antonio, Texas on April 14 and squash Solis and Pacquiao? ONLY IN BOXING!
