Juan Manuel Marquez: Future in boxing still in doubt?

Is he fighting again or isn’t he?

Several weeks ago, former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40KOs) was seemingly hinting at retirement but earlier this week, however, there were rumors the great JMM would possibly return in November.

Now, the 41 year old Marquez is denying the most recent speculation. “I don’t know anything regarding an alleged fight in November or a possible opponent, Marquez stated, according to BoxingScene.

“I keep thinking about my future [in boxing], it’s not an easy decision and I’m not taking it lightly. I only ask that there is no speculation about what I’m doing in my career.”

According to rumors, Marquez was pondering two possible dates, November 15 and November 29, for a bout in Mexico City, Las Vegas or Los Angeles.

However, it seems Marquez is still pondering on whether to continue fighting.

Fans last saw Marquez in the ring in May when he impressively defeated Mike Alvarado via a unanimous decision over 12 rounds. But in the aftermath of that bout, some accused at the Mexican great of using performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) and cited what appeared to be acne covering his chest. Nevertheless, the dominant victory, perhaps one of JMM’s most impressive to date, made him the mandatory challenger for WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao but JMM has wavered quite a bit on fighting his nemesis for a fifth time.

Is Marquez, who is still regarded as a top 10 pound-for-pound fighter by most, really contemplating retirement?

… Or is Team Marquez maneuvering for a grand finale against newly-crowned IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook?
