Faced with the biggest fight of his career, little-known Chris Algieri is already in training mode for his Nov. 23 clash with Manny Pacquiao.
While training camp proper won?t begin until mid-September, Algieri has decided to hit the gym in his native Long Island, New York, according to reports relayed to the Bulletin yesterday.
?Yes, he?s absolutely going through training,? said ace publicist Bernie Bahrmasel.
Algieri earned the right to meet Pacquiao the hard way as he picked himself up from two fi rst-round knockdowns en route to a split decision win over Pacquiao sparring partner Ruslan Provodnikov of Russia last June.
Algieri feels he needs to be at his utmost best to even have a chance of upsetting Pacquiao in their scheduled 12-round world welterweight title match at the CotaiArena, a 15,000-capacity venue at The Venetian.
A licensed nutritionist, the 30-year-old Algieri will be trained by Tim Lane, his long-time kickboxing coach shortly after the conclusion of the multi-city press tour.
The inaugural press conference will be in Macau and there will be two more stops in China and one more Asian city before the traveling circus goes stateside with Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York likewise hosting promotional events.
Algieri will spend most of his time preparing for the fight in Las Vegas and plans to head to the former Portuguese colony way ahead of Pacquiao, who will set up camp in Metro Manila.
