Strength, endurance and speed.
These are the things Chris Algieri will work on as he gets ready to train for the biggest fight of his life: a Nov. 23 showdown with Manny Pacquiao in Macau.
Algieri?s longtime trainer Tim Lane said yesterday in an overseas call that the 30-year-old New York native will once again get the expertise of physical therapist Dr. Michael Camp to help him toughen up.
Lane dismisses observations that Algieri lacks the experience to bang with somebody like Pacquiao, stressing his fighter actually has a lot of ring smarts.
?He only has 20 fights and no amateur experience but Chris is the best student I have been around. He has much more experience than what?s on paper. He?s very experienced. The people haven?t seen the best of Chris.?
Lane said Algieri?s real talent showed when he upset Ruslan Provodnikov last month but admitted Pacquiao is going to be a different animal despite his age.
?Age is just a number,? said Lane, pointing to the fact that Pacquiao will be three weeks short of his 36th birthday by the time he meets Algieri at the CotaiArena.
?Manny stays in shape and age doesn?t take its toll if you?re always in shape,? said Lane.
?Manny is very strong and doing very well in his comeback,? he added.
