There was no robbery last night in Las Vegas, at least not at the MGM Grand in the Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez fight. A draw was a fair decision. The 115-110 score in favor of Marquez is excessive. That score has Marquez winning 10 of 12 rounds with Pacquiao earning a 10-6 score in Round 1. But the 115-110 score in favor of Pacquiao is equally unfair. I watched that scorecard transpire with “expert” unofficial scorer Harold Lederman and saw that he gave every close round to Pacquiao.
Now, Judge Burt Clement scored the fight 113-113 a draw. He scored Round 1 10-7 for Pacquiao. Now he says he “screwed up”. He says he should have scored the round 10-6. Whether he’s incompetent or just an opportunist is irrelevant. It is still at his discretion whether or not to score the round 10-6 based on the three knockdowns. He’s the judge and he can score it 10-7 if he sees fit.
