CHICAGO -- With their grasp of the Eastern Conference slipping, the Miami Heat are eyeing the services of a proven veteran who could help the team continue shoot for a five straight NBA Finals appearance next season.

According to an ESPN source, Heat team president Pat Riley met with free agent Luol Deng in Chicago today. But the amount of money the Heat can offer Deng is yet to be determined as they await the decisions of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, who all opted out of their contracts.

The 29-year old Deng made $14.6 million last season is looking for a deal that pays him that amount annually.

The 6-foot-9, 220-pound Deng was the No.7 pick in the 2004 NBA Draft out of Duke University. He played 9 1/2 seasons with the Chicago Bulls before being traded to the Cavaliers last January 7, 2014 after both sides couldn't come to terms to a contract extension.

Deng averaged 16 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game last season. (Homer D. Sayson)
