How much is Manny Pacquiao worth these days?
Well, just by looking at his reported deal with Solar Entertainment, which will air his April 14 fight over GMA-7, the former construction and bakery worker from Gen. Santos is easily worth P1 million per minute.
While top Solar officials refused to reveal the exact amount of the deal, they also didn’t deny the figure that already came out of the papers — $800,000 or P38.4 million just for the TV rights.
Based on this enormous figure, almost four times bigger than what Pacquiao got for his third fight with Erik Morales last November, Pacquiao will get P3.2 million for every round if the fight goes 12 rounds.
That’s P1,066,667 per minute or almost P18,000 per second.
The shorter the fight gets, the bigger the computation becomes.
While others believe that it will take a lot of effort for Solar to recover the amount, especially if the fight ends in say, one, two or three rounds, the price for every 30-second spot would suggest otherwise.
Solar is reportedly selling the commercial spots for P2 to P2.5 million. And besides, Solar also has other venues to draw the money, like the closed-circuit viewing in hundreds of cinemas nationwide.
But whatever the outcome is, top Solar officials believe that they’re in a “no-lose” situation.
“The Manny Pacquiao we know is the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world today. He’s the Tiger Woods of golf and the Roger Federer of tennis,” said Solar Sports COO Peter Chanliong.
“Pacquiao is worth every penny,” he added.
Wilson Tieng, president of Solar Entertainment, sounded so generous when he said he wouldn’t mind if Pacquiao’s fight against Mexico’s Jorge Solis in San Antonio, takes the short route.
“Why not? He’s our champion. And we want him to win regardless of how many rounds it would take,” he said.
Not counting the other millions, again in dollars of course, he’ll be making for this coming fight, Pacquiao, now in the thick of training, is indeed bound to make a killing.
