Andy Lee Crushes John Jackson

Former middleweight title challenger Andy Lee, fighting at junior middleweight for the first time, KO?d John Jackson at 1:07 of round 5?

Saturday night at New York?s Madison Square Garden, former middleweight title challenger Andy Lee (33-2, 23 KOs), fighting at junior middleweight for the first time, KO?d John Jackson (18-2, 15 KOs) with a dynamite right hook at 1:07 of round 5.

Lee was dropped in the first and hadn?t won a round. He looked like a steppingstone, an opponent, a fighter whose potential was a thing of the past.

Jackson, son of former middleweight champion and knockout artist Julian Jackson, was having his way with the Irish veteran.

Round five was all Jackson, who was beating Lee from pillar to post?when Lee, who looked all but finished, connected with a shot that dropped Jackson to the canvas. The referee Benjy Estevez didn?t bother to count. There was no need. Jackson was out to the world.

Lee landed 41 of 109 total punches to Jackson?s 60 of 126. Lee landed 28 of 63 power shots to 53 of 104 for Jackson.

?With that Irish blood in me,? said Lee after the bout, ?when I get hit, I lose my temper and I want to hit him back.?
