KORONADAL CITY – The royal council of elders of the century-old Grand Royal Sultanate of Talik may confer a royal title on boxing legend Manny “Pacman’’ Pacquiao and name him Datu Radjik, which means “honorable warrior.’’
Sultanate spokesman RajahMuda Abbie Pendatun Bansil said the four deputy sultans, datus and rajahmudas of the sultanate support the plan.
The sultanate, led by Sultan Datu Nasser Sambuto Pendatun, covers the provinces of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani and the cities of Tacurong, Koronadal, and General Santos. Pacquiao was born and raised in General Santos. “He is a good fighter. He fought his opponent in an honorable manner. He deserves (the title) because of his achievements,” Bansil said.
Pacquiao, who is eyeing a congressional seat in South Cotabato under the pro-administration Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino, is in the United States preparing for his fight against undefeated Mexican fighter Jorge Solis on April 17 in San Antonio, Texas.
General Santos City recently honored Pacquiao, along with his older brother Bobby who won last year against Mexican boxer Oscar Villa in Los Angeles.
