Back to the gym at last

BARELY three weeks into his fight, Manny Pacquiao finally arrived at the Wild Card Gym for the final stage of his preparation for undefeated Mexican challenger Jorge Ivan “Coloradito” Solis on April 14 at the Aladome in San Antonio, Texas.

Pacquiao arrived at Los Angeles last Sunday and was greeted by an estimated 600 strong supporters upon his arrival at the LA airport.

Observers believe that Pacquiao is in tip-top shape and can easily dispose of the taller and hungrier Solis, who is also trying to earn his ticket to stardom.

Candidate

Before leaving for the US, Pacquiao has been training in General Santos City, but he also included in his daily routine trying to woo voters, as he is challenging Darlene Antonino-Custodio for the congressional seat.

Pacquiao was supposed to be at the Wild Card Gym two week ago, but his pitch with politics delayed his travel.

He will be working with Wild Card Gym assistant trainer Justine Fortune, since Freddie Roach is already in Puerto Rico training Oscar De La Hoya for the latter’s May 5 encounter with the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. in Las Vegas.

Training load

Pacquiao, who is called the “Devil of the Philippines” by many Mexicans fighters and fight fans, is expecting to double his training load as he aims for a rematch and a big money fight against Juan Manuel Marquez, the new WBC super featherweight champion, by September.

Pacquiao carries a 43-3-2, win-loss-draw record, including 34 wins by knockout, while Solis holds an immaculate 32-0-2, 23KOs slate.
