Ukraine media is reporting that Vitali Klitschko has been elected Mayor of Kiev.
Based on exit polling in today?s elections, the third time?s the charm for the former heavyweight champion of the world, who ran for the office in 2006 and 2008 and is reported to have an overwhelming lead over seven other candidates.
Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, is Europe?s eighth largest city with a population of 2,847,200. By electing Klitschko, the voters of Kiev have cast their vote for a man who looks incorruptible.
Politics is dirty pool. Time will tell if Klitschko is as immune to the blandishments of power as he appears. But if nothing else, his election lays waste to the notion that boxers are miscreants and ne?er-do-wells, which we of course knew all along.
