ROLI Gasca hasn?t had much success fighting in Japan, but last Sunday night he ended a two-fight losing slump in the ?Land of the Rising Sun? with a convincing victory.
The 24-year-old Gasca scored a unanimous decision over Japanese Yuta Horiike at the Act City in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka.
Gasca outclassed Horiike with scores of 100-92, 99-91 and 98-92.
He improved to 22-4-1 with six knockouts, while Horiike dropped to 9-2-3 with two knockouts.
Gasca is 2-2-1 in his fights in Japan.
Break
With the impressive win, ALA Promotions is looking at another title shot for Gasca.
?I haven?t seen the fight yet, but I heard that he did well. We are now negotiating for an IBO (International Boxing Organization) title fight for June in South Africa,? ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu.
Aldeguer is currently negotiating for Gasca to challenge IBO super bantamweight champion Thabo Sonjica.
Record
Sonjica is a 25-year-old South African with an 18-2 record that includes 13 knockouts.
Sonjica snagged the IBO super bantamweight belt with a sixth-round technical knockout over Filipino Silvester Lopez last year. He also owns a win over former world champion Simphiwe Nongqayi.
Gasca once fought for the IBO super bantamweight crown in 2012, but lost to Alexander Bakhtin by unanimous decision in Moscow, Russia.
