I do not come to buy Manny Pacquiao’s dreams of public service to his beloved homeland. Today, my fellow Pacmaniacs, I come to praise this young athlete whose limited education did not hamper him when he heard the vox populi, the voice of his people.
Finally, a political hopeful who is not tone deaf, who can actually read the mood and the will of the electorate. With an unaccustomed sound of boos ringing in his ears at ringside in Cebu City, with an oral “election” by the 20,000 in attendance, the boxing champion has now announced he will yield to the obvious will of his generally adoring public.
Hell no, Pacman now says, I will NOT run for Congress. I will do what the Pac maniacs want and that is concentrate on being a one-man boxing wrecking machine. If only America had some politicians as much in tune with the voters…can you hear me now, John Kerry?
I believe that, post his boxing years, Pacman will hold some suitable electoral office. But, for now like any smart politico, he has chosen to serve the voters in the office they most want him to retain, that of Manny Pacquaio, The International Destroyer! As far as Filipinos worldwide are concerned, he must remain their Ambassador to Pugilism. They know and now Manny knows his elective future can wait.
Great move, Manny! Why do I see this as bad. bad news for Jorge Solis and any other 130-pounder who steps in your boxing path?
