Jaca-Larios tiff in Vegas May 5 card

MANILA, Philippines — Newly crowned WBO Asia-Pacific super-featherweight champion Jimrex “The Executioner” Jaca will face former WBC superbantam champion Oscar “Chololo” Larios on May 5 in the undercard of the Oscar De la Hoya-Floyd Mayweather battle at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Jaca, in an interview right after his title-winning effort against Indonesia’s Simson Butar-Butar, said that Golden Boy Promotions vice-president Eric Gomez had told him about the fight with Larios, and that the GBP executive has already started processing his travel papers to the United States.

Jaca joins the undefeated Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista as the first names mentioned to see action on the big May 5 card which is considered as the biggest boxing event in the history of the sport.

International matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz, in an interview, revealed that Oscar De la Hoya has made it clear that since he is the main attraction of the May 5 fight, he reserves the right to choose who will be in the undercard, and that Bautista was the first name that the Golden Boy mentioned.

Jaca demolished Butar-Butar via a seventh-round knockout victory Saturday night, avenging the defeat of his compatriot Czar Amonsot who was stopped by the Indonesian in the first round last year.

The boxing event that also featured a controversial loss by Z Gorres and a stunning win by Bautista, looked more like the Sinulog event in terms of the SRO crowd at the Cebu City Sports Complex.
