SAN FRANCISCO -- A seriously undermanned Los Angeles Lakers team pulled out a huge road win Wednesday night, beating the Cleveland Cavaliers, 119-108, at the Quicken Loans Arena.
The 17-32 Lakers started the night with only eight players. But they lost Nick Young and Jordan Farmar to injuries and when Chris Kaman was disqualified with six fouls, the Lakers were down to five.
Center Robert Sacre also fouled out late in the fourth quarter but a seldom-used rule allowed him to stay in the game with his team assessed a technical foul each time he commits a personal foul.
Despite the manpower shortage, the Lakers prevailed, thanks to a 36-17 first quarter start that eventually opened a 50-21 lead. Los Angeles' cause was helped tremendously by 18 3-pointers made, a franchise high.
Ryan Kelly scored 26 and Jordan Farmar had 21 with 5 threes. But it was Steve Blake who ran the Lakers's show with 11 points and 15 assists. Wesley Johnson chipped in 20 and nine boards.
Star point guard Kyrie Irving had an off night with 11 points and six assists while ex-Bull Luol Deng missed nine of 10 shots for three points. Anderson Varejao led the Cavs with 15 and 13 rebounds. (JSM)
