LAS VEGAS — There were no fireworks, no rude commentaries, no dagger looks. Instead, Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines and Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez tried to hide their true intentions of knocking each other out on May 8 by exchanging friendly handshakes and smiles during Thursday’s press conference here.
Pacquiao, clad in a red and white No Fear jacket, showed no tension as he clowned around media men and his entourage, always smiling and waving to the crowd. He was also besieged with a barrage of questions from almost all media organizations and accomodated every interview request.
Still weighing comfortably below the 126-pound featherweight limit, Pacquiao tried to establish eye contact with Marquez while waiting for their turns to pose. Marquez, clad in a closed-neck black jacket, evaded looking at “Pacman’s” eyes when they shook hands.
