On Thursday night, Victor Ortiz and Luis Collazo will meet at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, where the two will look for a big win in order to get back on the title hunt in the welterweight division.
Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KOs) has tasted gold before, as he was a welterweight titlist before losing it to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in his biggest fight to date, while Collazo (34-5, 17 KOs) was on the brink of a world title when he lost a controversial decision to Andre Berto in 2009.
However, after some recent setbacks to both fighters, Thursday?s clash will put them back on center stage.
?We?re so ready, we?ve had the best sparring partners and we?re ready to get in the ring. Training camp was really good,? said Ortiz during Monday?s final press conference. ?This is my first time fighting in Brooklyn and I?m excited. I don?t have any words to say, nothing bad, nothing good. I?m here for the victory.?
Asked about his jaw, which was broken in his upset loss to Josesito Lopez in 2012, Ortiz said everything was fine.
?I?m not at all concerned about my jaw, I feel great and I can?t wait to get in the ring,? added Ortiz. ?I?m completely 100 percent confident. I have no ring rust whatsoever.?
Collazo was equally as thrilled about fighting again in main event slot.
?I?m really excited and humbled by the opportunity. I just want to give the boxing fans a great fight and a great outing. I?ve been waiting a long time for a fight of this caliber,? said Collazo. ?This fight is for my future. I?m trying not to look past it, but this victory here means everything to me. It means I have a future. If not, I have to start all over again from scratch.?
