Max ?The Tiger? Bursak will square off against Jarrod ?Left Jab? Fletcher over a scheduled 12 rounds at Salle des Etoiles in Monte Carlo, Monaco, on February 1. At stake, Bursak?s WBA Continental middleweight title.
Born in Kiev, Ukraine, 29-year-old Bursak is a 10-year pro (29-1-1, 12 KOs) who fought four times last year, stopping Julien Marie Sainte by third-round TKO in February, thus winning the vacant EBU middleweight title, and defeating Prince Arron in July, Nick Blackwell in September, which won him the vacant WBA Continental, and Gari Abajiani in December, all by unanimous decision. Bursak?s sole loss came by way of Hassan N?Dam N?Jikam, who won by unanimous decision in 2012. He drew in his first fight, against Viacheslav Kusov.
A 30-year-old Australian, Fletcher is a five-year pro (17-1, 10 KOs) who fought four times in 2013, stopping Kiatchai Singwancha by seventh-round TKO in February, retiring Randy Suico in the fifth in April, stopping Philip Kotey by sixth-round TKO in May, and beating Tim Kanofski by unanimous decision in October. Australian and PABA champ, Fletcher lost to Billy Joe Saunders by second-round TKO in 2012 in his quest for the Commonwealth (British Empire) title. That was Fletcher?s first and so far only fight outside of Australia, which took place in London. Not that Bursak is much less provincial?the upcoming bout will only be his fourth to take place in a country other than Ukraine. Happenstance, no doubt, but both guys? sole losses occurred in their first forays outside their respective homelands, Fletcher?s in England and Bursak?s in France.
