8CN sat down with the legendary, future Hall of Fame, multiple world champion, James ?Light’s Out? Toney and got an update on what he’s up to as of late. Toney will go down as one of the best to ever step into the boxing ring. He’s given many years to the sport of boxing and he deserves to be respected for his achievements.
Toney shares his thoughts on the sport that he loves. He tells 8CN that he’s focused on staying in shape and working hard in the gym. Toney says that he’s done calling out fighters. He tells 8CN that if his phone rings, he’ll be ready.
James also has some cool projects outside of the ring. He talks about a Bounty Hunting reality show that will soon air, and a show called ?The four champs? which involves himself, Lamon Brewster, and Ray Mercer. Toney is one of the good guys in boxing. It’s always a pleasure talking to him.
BC ? What’s up champ? It’s been a minute since I’ve talked to you. What’s up these days?
JT ? What’s going on? How’s everything going Brad?
BC ? Things are better now. I was down with the flu for a few weeks. How are you doing man?
JT – I’m working hard, doing my thing man. I got a lot of stuff coming out real soon. Everybody is going to love it.
BC ? You fought in the heavyweight tournament in Europe and now you’re back home. What’s up with your health? All good?
JT ? I don’t know who started this stuff that my health isn’t good. Dan Rafael put out some bullshit that my health is bad. I’m in great shape man. I don’t know what he’s saying. It is what it is.
BC ? You mentioned that you were working on some TV stuff. What’s the latest?
JT ? Yea I got a Bounty Hunter show coming out in March. I got my license and a gun, the whole thing, I’m a real Bounty Hunter. I got another show coming out with Chris Byrd, Ray Mercer, and Lamon Brewster called ?The four Champs.? It shows the inside of the life of a fighter, inside and outside of the ring. We start shooting that next week.
BC ? What’s the latest with you in boxing? Looks like the Klitschko’s are about to pack it in. This will surely open up the heavyweight division.
JT ? I don’t call nobody out no more. They obviously don’t want to fight. They are worthless and I don’t care about nothing else but me and what’s best for me. When my show comes out, my popularity will be much higher and maybe that will get some of these guys out to fight me.
BC ? I heard you got a lot of love in England.
JT ? The fans over there are wonderful. I felt like Elvis Presley over there. When I walked on the street in London, it’s the same as when I walk around in NY. I had fans coming up to me wanting pictures, and autographs. It was great man, a lot of love over there. The fans over there in England are like throwback fans. They really support their fighters over there. Look at how they treat Ricky Hatton. They love him over there. The fans over there love me and I love them.
BC ? What’s up with Floyd? Who do you think he’ll fight next?
JT ? If he fights Amir Khan in England, they will love him over there. Floyd will be like a rock star in England. He’ll pack anywhere they fight.
BC ? When you retire, how do you want to be remembered by the fans?
JT ? I want them to know that I fought everybody. I want the fans to see me as not ducking nobody at no time.
BC ? Do you think you’ll stay in the sport after you retire?
JT ? Yes. I will stay in the game. I won’t be far from it.
BC ? The sport needs you to stay involved after you retire James. You’re a legend, and the sport really needs you.
JT ? I wish some of the other writers out there thought that (laughs) they sure hate me.
BC ? I don’t know why some hate on you man.
JT ? I don’t know either. I guess because I don’t kiss their ass. If they do me right, I’ll do them right.
BC ? Champ thanks for the interview. Do you have any closing thoughts?
JT ? To the fans, if you supported me I love ya. If you didn’t support me, I still love ya’ll. You know what? Haters never win.
